In this case, barring is not creating a new pattern, it's just altering the pattern under the barring. I've seen it on my own barred crosses.

The chick also has buff Orpington in it.

Yes, but it pretty much didn't say it had to be silver for silver lacing, so I guess gold is okay to use too.

Buff Orpington's have the silver/gold genetics so basically it doesn't matter. Pretty much what I seen on the lacing genetics section. So, yeah. They were using different chickens on the page, but buff is a start.
