Creating my own feed mix

I read a really good article on creating your own feed once, and yes decided it was entirely too complex to attempt. There are probably some good recipees on this site that can be found so you don't have to do all the math and calculations that are involved in doing it right.
Agreed. Personally, I feel like any beginner should start with pre-made chicken feed, before they decide on creating their own feed. If the OP is in fact a beginner, what happens in a month or a year when they decide they don't like chickens? Creating your own feed is a big committment to make.

G’Day from down under Cusaranch :frow Welcome!

I am late to the party on this one but seen as I wanted to say hello, I might as well add while I am here that I have also heard that this is complicated. I only have 5 x bantams so purchasing their feed is definitely the more convenient route for me.

I do hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

BYC has Topic of the Week articles which I have found to be a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group. While not specific to your question, there are a few on 'feeding chickens' that might interest you.

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Telia glad you chimed in. I don't want to detract from the OP's desire for the best for their flock, and was thinking I might have came off overly negative in my prior posts. I am overprotective of my flock as well and would hate to leave them malnourished.

After much thought regarding the OP throughout the day I was thinking chicken are overly forgiving and provided they get free range time as well can identify anything we failed to provide for them in the grassess and insects they eat.

I am revising my position, would encourage you research this yourself and do WHAT YOU FEEL is right by your flock.
