Assuming this is a little gal...



Her legs have some darker spots on them, too, which is unusual.

What was the parental cross, again? Cuckoo hen with red roo?

I think that one might be a boy as they seem to have the white spot on the head. Not sure about the legs..could you post a picture?, These eggs are from my second crossing: the first cross was cuckoo roos with red hens. This time I took the cuckoo/red crossed hens and mated them with new red roos. I am waiting for my reds from dick to eventually mate with these to hopefully get the crele. Has only one hatched?

That's not a white spot on the head...that was still matted and mooshed down feathers. She's solid black, now that she's all fluffed up and running around.

I'll see what I can do about getting photos of her legs - probably be tomorrow.

Yes, she's the only one that's hatched, as of this moment. There's another one that was pipped internally about four hours ago; but, no external as of yet. So, here's crossing fingers.

Here's Lucky all fluffed up; and, an image of her legs. They've got a dark wash down them kinda like BRs only on a pink (will turn to white I'm sure) leg.






Sorry the photos aren't better. I'll try to get better photos as she gets older.

Keeping a close eye on y'all... I've been spending the last year trying to decide which breed/variety to "get serious" about, and (not kidding) had just recently wished for this variety... So fond of creles and Dorkings.

Very Sad news. My first hatch (red roo over cuckoo/red hens) have dissappeared! I had them in their pen in the coop with an attached outside pen. They were good sized, and with an adult roo and two adult hens who all got along well. I went out to get eggs and they had vanished! No sign of a struggle or feathers, the adults were fine. It is possible they could have gotten underneath the coop where it is attached, but I don't see how. The outside pen is attached, covered completely and has an electric wire around it. It almost looks like they were stolen, but I live in the country, so that doesn't make sense. I went out and reinforced with with heavier wire,just to have something to do. So upset. I do have 10 younger chicks and I am preparing to incubate again. But it is just heartbreaking not knowing what happened! These are the ones that I had the progressive pictures of. Back to the drawing board!

Oh Joyous... So sorry to hear this. The progressive pictures are such a fabulous idea too. I had a peregrin (sp) swoop down and grab my 4 week old chick last weekend. Needless to say, the nets & streamers are now up. It's an awful lesson for me on my ability to procrastinate. All of your chicks is just unheard of though. Any predator capable of making them all disappear would have left a mess of feathers. I'd guess human predators or... Escape. So sad... Don't give up! Thoughts with you...
