I bought 4 runners and 2 Cayugas. They are now 8 weeks old. One Cayuga is crested. I have done some research, and I found that this is a genetic mutation, It will have seizures, It will die young, Etc etc. Does anyone have real life experience with these guys that can offer advice?

They don't all die young or have problems but they are more prone to it.

Is that duck a drake or a girl? If a girl, it could be very hard on her with mating if the drake grabs hold of the crest during the "act".

Crested are mutations yes, everything the person said above me is true. Most of the time the drakes go for the top of the neck not for the head when grabbing.... obviously this depends on the drake but you might want to consider your drake if it's happening.
Treat them as normal ducks and enjoy the floof top crown they have!
