crested pigeons

can someone give me some information on the crested pigeon like if they can stand the cold weather what kind of cage they do good in what kind of feed they need thanks kenny
Hi Kenny. I'm not sure if crested pigeons need any extra care, but pigeons as a whole can withstand some pretty cold temps. So long as the loft is dry and draught free they should do well. As for accommodation you will need an avairy or loft ideally about 3' deep x 6' wide x 6' high with perches and nest boxes. It's always a good idea to go bigger if you can as you never know how many you may end up with! They will lay eggs and sit nearly all year if you let them! How many are you planning on getting?

I don't know how many I started with 4 ring neck doves now about 20 of them so I say the pigeons would be about the some my dove aviary is about 20x20x6.5 so I would say that the pigeon aviary would be about the same size

Yes. They will need at least the same space as the doves. If you had racers you could probably use a smaller loft as there run is the sky! But if you have fancy pigeons than a larger loft is always recommended. An avairy or flight cage is always a good addition.

Wow those are pretty! Do you know the species name? I don't think they're Columba Livia, rock dove. Are they native to Australia?
Just searched up the scientific name, it is Ocyphaps lophotes. And they are indeed native to Australia.

There’s also this pigeon called the Spinifex Pigeon that is kind of similar to the crested pigeon, but it is more closely related to Common Bronzewings. It’s scientific name is Geophaps plumifera.
