My mom’s chicken has been acting sick. She has a huge lump on her chest and her wing is droopy. She still eats but doesn’t move much and sleeps most of the time. Can anyone recommend something to help her? Thanks!

I'm sorry no one has replied to your thread yet.
Does her breath smell bad?
Please read this article and this article to start to diagnose her. She needs to be isolated with just plain clean water to drink and no food. Check her crop at night and again in the morning to see how/if it changed. She may have sour crop or an impacted crop. It can be cleared but it does take a bit of effort for several days to get the crop moving again. And there can be an underlying condition that caused it in the first place.

Welcome to BackYard Chickens. Very sorry to hear about your hen. To let us help you better, could you answer a few questions?

How old is the hen? What is she being fed, any supplements? How long has she been acting like this? How does her crop feel, firm, watery, like a bean-bag? Is her crop empty in the morning? Is she producing poop, if yes, could you post a picture? Has this hen had any problems in the recent past, if so, specify.

Have a very similar situation with one of our ladies (hatched in March) and will be trying the coconut oil and massage in the morning as it hasn't changed in 2 days and is very hard so probably impacted crop.

You can try putting apple cider vinegar in her water and massaging the crop.

Sorry to hear about your bird. It may be best if you start a thread on the ER forums.

I like the idea, but ACV has been known to decrease water intake in birds, especially ones that are sick so it may be best to hold off on the idea for now.

Well, I guess things had gone farther than I thought. Just said goodbye to my white rock, she didn't make it through the night. Hope your mom's bird fairs better Jessie, this is one of the not so great things with chickens - they hide how sick they are sometimes.
