Crop issues need HELP!

Melissa did you try the epsom salt?

Only once. On Friday night a week ago

I just checked on her. She only has a few poops. The Dulcolax did not help clean her out. I have to work today, so I will not be able to monitor until I get home at 3:30. I have to believe that this is God's will and be at peace with that. I have no other choice.

Heather I am so happy that you will at least have a happy ending.

prayers for a complete recovery.

Both you and your little chick have fought too hard for this to end without a success story. I truly believe that. Hugs and fingers crossed!

Yes! If it has been a week and she is still eating and drinking( enough that she isn't too weak to eat and drink) then keep trying..

I'm very sorry to hear this...does her crop feel crunchy?, like pieces of scratch grains?I'm asking cause my girl that ate all the shavings had that sort of feel to her crop and of course the ducolax didint help as its not able to dissolve shavings. I asked my vet to preform crop surgrey on her but the next day she had died, I think I waited too long to get her help and I wish I reacted sooner but sometimes they just get too weak because of the super fast matabolisum, they really need to eat a lot to sustain themselves. It was soo sad but I caint help but wonder whatever even made her do such a thing and it whould be hard not to use shavings when keeping chickens cause well it whould be messy. I hope a miracle happens and she makes a turn around for the better!

I don't give any scratch grains to the little ones, only to the 5-6 month old, and only a little as a treat.

I got these 2 Ameraucana chicks when they were about 6-8 weeks old and had them free ranging during the day in their own chunnel. I had kept them in a dog crate during the night separate from the older flock because they ate too little. The minute I noticed her pecking on the shavings, I quit using them and started on Puppy training pads.

The last time I vomited her, she did have a small piece of shaving come out, but that was last week. I fear that is what is blocking her and may also have passed down to her gizzard and is stuck.

What amazes me is that food is still going thru her and she is pooping, eating, and drinking, but I don't think that the blockage will clear on its own. My husband won't let me spend any more money on her as the Vet this last Sat cost $156. This Vet didn't know much about chickens, but he tried. There were a ton of Vets around, and nobody would see her.

Just wanted to make sure you know that in addition to their foraging, the little ones had access to fresh crumbles, and clean drinking water, and finely shredded and chopped fresh veggies. All of my chickens do

. It would break your heart to see this little one eating, drinking, chirping, as if no care in the world. She is so mad that she is not allowed to forage in the grass.

Oh I know how you feel, I've lost my hole flock to a disease last year and they all had to be put down as they were chocking to death on wet pox leasions! The worst part was this fowl pox virus was a very furtulent form that just whould not go away no matter what we tried to do, they got over it and next thing you know it came back again and again!, it was beyond terrible and it all started with the purchase of a trio of lavender orpingtons, they were coughing but I didint realise untill it was too late and my whole flock was sick soon after, luckly my two house chicken never came into contact with anyone else and I was able to save them, don't know what I whould have done if I had lost them too, they are like my 3rd and 4th child lol. All in all I really know how you feel and how hard it is when you try so much to save them and you just caint, it makes you feel awfull, just wanted to share my story in hopes that someone reads it and changes there mind about buying birds and adding them to there flock, just isint worth it at all and I had to learn the hard way

Oh WOW! I am so sorry to hear that. I have gotten all my chicks from the same source, and she just told me that they had an outbreak of fowl pox. So hopefully, mine missed getting the pox.

Btw I just came home from work, and my little one is still alive and kicking. BUT, I do have a plan in place with a vet in case she takes a turn for the worst, and I know she is suffering.

It's funny, but I never knew that I could love a chicken like that. I think that she is Winston Churchill's reincarnation. One of his famous quotes was "Never, Never, Never give up."
