Cross Continental Friends!!!

Ok, a bit about me. I`m obviously old as I´m a pensioner. I´m British, but opted four years ago to move to Spain for many reasons... the pace of life, sunshine, Spanish people (far happier than English generally).

We (my husband and I) have lived in Spain for just over four years now, but have owned a Spanish home for about 7 year. We live in a small village called Formentera del Segura, which is just a little inland from Guardamar on the Costa Blanca. It´s typically Spanish and although lots of Brits live here, it still retains it´s Spanish feel and origins.

We had an apartment but in September last year, we sold it and bought a house which sits in the middle of the campo (fields) and we have no immediate neighbours which is wonderful, but it´s walking distance to three different villages.

How do we spend our days? Well up until The New Year, we were very busy with the renovation of our house, but now its finished, we can relax a little. We have a little dog who loves to wander in the orange groves around the house. And you know that we now have three new hens of course.

We play Irish Road Bowling twice a week. I help two Spanish girls who are learning English and they also help me with my Spanish.

I have a garden where I am growing blueberries, tomatoes, lettuces, onions loganberries, blackberries, white currants, blackcurrants and all sorts of other stuff. We have a walled terrace of around 1,000 metres with a pool (but it´s a bit cold at the momenbt) and another 1,000 metres of orange grove, containing 70 trees. We intend to thin these out and plant other trees as well.

We also work for a children´s charity (children in care mainly) and we´ve promised them a barbecue when the pool is warmer. There are about 27 children in the home ranging from 7 to 17 and they are lovely.

Alan (my husband) and I were the first and as yet, the only Brits to be married in our village, although we´ve lived together since 1992. We decided it was the right time to get married as we were starting a new (and wonderful) live here in sunny Spain.

I´m sure this is all very boring for you readers, so sorry for rambling on.

Irene

why do you think your story is boring?

we aren't the same, luckily, I really hope to view my retirement day

after many years of working for the others, I chose a much quiet life, that's no more satisfaction than be your own boss, planning your work and realize your projects

Irene that is the farthest thing from boring EVER! That sounds really, really nice and a lot like what I want to do, although my retirement is a long, long, long, long way off and my dream place would be somewhere in Ecuador South America!

you sure got clear ideas!

Ecuador is one of the most beautiful place of south (center) America, but, can be one of the most dangerous

I've done a beautiful in south America, Argentina, Cile, Bolivia, Perù, during the backward trip, my motorbike seize, I think is still there in the pampa

is one of the best memories, wandering in nowhere with my love, smiling and laughing like stupids

Sounds awful nice! Hope I have as wonderful a time as it sounds like you did! That is actually the real reason I am learning Spanish. I say if you can't speak the language to know what people are saying about you then you really should not go!

Latin America isn't a continent, is a lifestyle

you've got to be so flexible about the foods, adapt you to sleep in a tent in the desert, where the temperature difference between day and night is huge, but, nothing is like a sunrise over an Andean lake

I like that "a lifestyle not a continent"! I can't wait to go, I feel like I actually belong there. My family gets annoyed with me sometimes 'cause I like to make south american dishes (the ones I have the ingredients for anyway) and am always talking about different Latin American Holidays and such. And I strive to be adaptable, flexible and try something new and daring everyday!
