Crosses to make Satins

Looking to make something similar to satins. Would a polishxsilkie or a cochinxsilkie work better?

My F1 silkie/Cochins had TERRIBLE crests. Honestly I’d be inclined to tell you to try silkie/polish first.

I've been thinking about the word 'satins'. Satin is, essentially, a cheaper diluted version of silk. So is a satin like a diluted silkie ?

sorry to take over your post, but i’m curious about something. when you talk about crossing two breeds to make a certain thing, does it matter which the rooster is and which the hen is? like for a cochin/silkie, would the roo have to be cochin and silkie the hen? or does that not matter

Honestly I'm not sure. MY crosses will be made with silkie hens since I'm putting the silkies in with whatever breed (Cochin or polish) I decide will be best. I'll probably end up breeding the F1 hens to the other group any how, but I'm always up for shortcuts XD

For me a Cochin/Silky cross would give a nicer conformation.

And yes, kinda. Sarina in this case are basically silkies (sometimes without the dark skin and extra toe) with normal feathers

There are breeders who are trying to develop the satin as an accepted breed variation of a silkie. Basically you start with the cochin/silkie cross and keep breeding back to silkie and breeding the offspring to each other maintaining the smooth or "satin" feathers, but keeping all the other silkie traits, such as black skin, 5 toes, correct comb etc. Some breeders have 10 generations of satins, they are over 90% silkie at that point, but have the smooth feathers.
