Crossing my Red Ranger Hens.

Pics
Although digressing a bit from the meat topic and RRx’s, I’ve got three boys with potential blue genetics an ameraucana/Marans cross, and leghornxCCL, and an ameraucana/Isbar cross. All Roo’s im looking at putting them over some red sex links.

Keep us informed on how that works out. Its fun to tinker with breeding and see what you can make of it. Its a heck of a lot more fun than reading about it. Whats the worst that can happen? you end up eating eggs that weren't the color you intended? they are still going to taste good!

Yep... they all still taste the same! Go figure? The girls have been in with the ameraucana/Marans boy for a bit... when I get another pen sorted they will be cycling through with another boy... unless the farm owner decides to buy another ten pullets this year, in which case they will go in with ny ameraucana/Isbar boy. I’m not a fan of the hyline reds, but then I could hatch out two lines at the same time... I need something to occupy me while my RR girls grow out and reach point of lay!

Just a picture to share as I kill time before I start weighing Nake Neck X Red Rangers. I have 2 mama Dorkings and unfortunately they are fighting over resources and chicks are leaving one mama to live with the more dominate mama. I was hoping they would work together and not fight but oh well. I am learning how broody mamas interact. I have had 7 broodies so far this year, one is still on her eggs (serama).

Is that behavior normal amongst two or more broody hen?

I moved my Rangers out today, one isn’t feathered out properly, but the rest are good. I had one attempted cannibalism/tail feather pecking incident. I Blu koted, slathered some no peck around the broken bleeding tail feathers. It seems to work better on the chicks than it did on the cockerels I tried it on last, several chicks were not impressed with the flavor/aroma after the victims return. We are at 4 weeks old now and averaging just under 2 lbs. I leg banded a bunch for desirable traits/I think they are pullets. I will continue to monitor them. Any thoughts/feedback on my featherless wonder? The two light red ones in back center with purple bands are on my “keepers” list.
