I was looking at your male in the second picture. He has a great comb. I was commenting last night on Jeremy's barred rock males he posted. This is the kind of comb he needs on his barred rock large fowl which you are using in your cross. You got some excellent color coming on the Delaware pattern. Hard to believe that is how this breed got started years ago. Hope the third cross brings more good barring in the neck and tails. You have one female that has excellent rock type but she is brown in color. bob

Would that be a Buff Columbian Rock?

Thanks for posting your project, Banny! I wish I could say that I know what you're talking about, but I have no experience with ducks and probably never will so long as I am on acreage without a pond

Wow, looks like you have a very good project running! I'm not too familiar with Delawares, but by George those are very Delaware-ish to me!

Hey there Gresh I was reading your post here and I got to thinking was the "pun" intended on the by George statement or or did you not know that the F1 project rooster in Mrs. Kathy's second picture, his name just so happens to be George, IRONIC? Anyway I like this thread if/when I ever get my stuff off the ground I should have a couple of different projects to post up on here. I too am working with Mrs. Kathy on the Delaware project myself, and I have some good ones floating around in the ol' noodle as we speak.

I'm trying the same project as you except I'm using barred rock roos on RIR hens. Will this work?
Reason for the RIR's is can't find any Hamps locally.
By the way my birds are only 8 weeks for the BR's and 3 weeks for the RIR's.
Any advice you can give is appreciated.

I was told not to use RIRs. I can't remember all the reasons why right now.

You can use the RIR and get the same results(Delaware pattern) as they are both (RIR,NH) considered Red-columbian patterned. The kicker here is you won't get the correct body conformation(A Delaware should be shaped just like a NH in the body type) and because of the brick shape of the RIR(if using real heritage type) you won't get the right results. If using production/hatchery type stock it doesn't matter 'cept you won't be producing up to standard type Dels from that cross anyhow.

I currently have a project underway. I just started today with my chicks arrving in the mail.My plan is to make my own delewares I puchased a barred rock rooster and 10 new hempshire pullets. If you have any guidance for me that would be great. I know its really early however next spring I will start pull eggs for hatching and I would like to no what to look for in the crosses and what to keep and not to keep thanks for your time take care Cory
