A few days ago my husband told me that our week old chick - who is obviously a rooster anyway - attempt to crow! I told him he was on crack and that it was impossible.

Today when everyone wanted out of the dog crate and I wasn't letting them out, the little cockerel looked right at me and crowed! It was a high-pitched, trilly little chick voice, but it had the same three "consonants" if you will.

Is this possible or are we both hallucinating?

I posted a while ago asking if a 5 week old could crow (well, he seemed to be practicing at the time)- and I was surprised to learn that some people have had 3 and 4 DAY old cockerels crow! Based on that, I would say it is absolutely possible that your one week old is crowing! What breed is he?

ETA: here's the link to the thread with a video of my 6 week old crowing - sounds more like a shriek than anything else! https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=68267

Mr. Cocky Cockerel was the first to hatch and is the biggest. He's an Ameraucana with beautiful slate green legs.

I'll try to get some video tomorrow. I've only seen him do it once, when they were really antsy to be let out of the crate. I thought mama was stepping on someone until I realized what it really was.

Crazy. I have a frazzle who I swear is a roo (at least until it lays an egg) and he's never crowed. My Polish crows normally. Here's a video of him crowing when he was about 6 weeks old:
