Crowing
I put some fake eggs in the nest boxes and then took them out. I'd just put them down on a table I have next to the coop and one disappeared..... The poor crow must have been very disappointed with its "lunch".And they steal golf balls
I used to wonder why the little kids over the back threw their little plastic toys over my fence. I now know that it's been the crows. They are always grabbing "stuff". One day they took off with a packet of screws I was using on a project, but they dropped it still in my yard an I could retrieve it. Somewhere, one of the neighbours is wondering why they've got an egg in their yard, and why it doesn't break (it's a very realistic looking fake)
The crows were also coming onto the patio. I couldn't figure out why, there's no food there. I recently figured out that they were coming for a reel of bright fluoro pink twine I had left there. It was partly unrolled, they'd been trying to take it.
(our "crows" are really "Australian ravens" or something, we still just inaccurately call them black crows.)
Now I have covered runs and the crows aren't sharing the chooks' dinner, I quite like having them around. I just know not to put any of the girls' eggs down outside other than temporarily, or the crows will take them.
I'd like to think they'd protect us from hawks, if we had any (we don't)
