Opps got my viruses mixed I guess. There are soooo many of the things lately. You had that stuff. Yikes.
The crows are very very smart!!!

Yup, I got West Nile from a mosquito bite about 10 years ago. Not fun. Terrible headaches and fever for 3 weeks.That's when I started feeding my wrens, and building them nesting boxes all over the place. I have 6 mama wrens currently hatching their second clutches for this year in my coops. They get dusted twice a summer at night when they are in their houses. I put out water with Wazine once a month too. Last year was a terrible one for fowl pox in S.C.. No sign of pox here. The wrens and the fans kept the mosquitos at bay. It's fun to watch all their babies fledge at one time too. For some reason all the babies fledge at once, and there are about 30 babies fluttering about the coops for a day or so. My husband just laughs, and builds more houses for the new babies.

Interesting that you want to get rid of crows when I am actually feeding them. I see them all the time chasing the hawks away, so I want to keep them close to my chicken yard. Have you tried giving the scraps to your chickens inside their run or coop? I never feed my girls when they are outside, they have a feeder 24/7 in the run and give them treats to get them in after they free range.

Dragon lady I had the fowl pox here last yr. too. I had never had it before. Wonder why? Once in 20 plus yrs. Maybe we had a mosquito invasion of a different kind.??? I was even thinking of getting the vaccine for my hens but can not make up my mind.

If your hensit, theyshould be immune, but your young birds won't be. Just a very wet summer I think.

Nobody has mentioned a scare crow yet.. . I had a problem with the crows eating my duck eggs. I put a scare crow in that area and now I don't have the problem.

Total bummer this morning. I found eaten duck eggs for the first time since putting out the scare crow. Appears a crow has realized it is worthless.

I've seen the crows doing it before and have never seen the possums or coons out in the morning. I'm going to have to build the ducks their own coop (they share with the chickens now) and keep them locked up longer in the mornings.

Amen to that ! My crows brought their newly fledged babies to visit today, and left them in my care to hunt for food. They found all the food I put below the cedar trees that they parked the babies in. There are now 8 in the murder.I hope we don't have West Nile again this year.

Yeah I wouldn't mind the crows except for this one deal breaker. I put up a new little area to separate the ducks today so hopefully I wont have to worry about it anymore.
