Crud! I have been snared in the net of NAIS...

In the next couple of days, I'm gonna call and email the people listed on the letter...I think its BS for small holders to have to register less than 10 birds or that are pets...

As if I don't have enough to worry about with government intrusiveness......NAIS???? Reading what little I did about it over the last few minutes makes it sound like an animal version of gun control! What the hell is wrong with people inside the beltway of D.C.? Haven't citizens done just fine with their animals on their own for the past 387 years? Voters need to wake up and pay attention to the kind of IDIOTS they elect to represent them, that then get to make appointments to departments like the USDA and give us this kind of nonsense. Just recently, OSHA thought it would be a good idea to re-classify all rifle and pistol ammunition as well as the individual components, as an explosive. Meaning all ammo bought, sold, stored, transported, manufactured, used, etc. would have to follow the kind of regulations like those for TNT or C-4. The proposed rules and regulations were insane! Luckily, OSHA felt the pressure and squashed it's proposals. Hopefully, the non-compliance that I (and I'm sure millions of thers) pledge against NAIS will make it go away.

From what I can find out is they get their information for the town that you live in. I hold a stable permit in town, they request information from the town to see what livestock owners are listed and that is who they go out to. I pulled the stable permit years ago as told to do because the town was starting to grow and this way as long as we have our "stable" permits the city people can do nothing about the smells or sounds that they do not want to hear. We are grandfathered, in other wods we were here first. As far as I am concerend why would you want to build you million dollar home near something that you do not like?
If you have a little backyard anything with no permits or no one knows then I do not see how NAIS would have any idea.

NAIS will offer significant benefits to producers and agriculture in MA

First of all, LIES! Second of all, you ain't no producer nor do you participate in agriculture. You have two pets. It's VOLUNTARY, although they USDA keeps trying to redefine plain English terms, so ignore it. Dont do it no matter what. It's a crock and a way to track people, not animals anyway. What they want is people who are scared of the BIG BAD Government to automatically do what they're told and just sign up without doing any research.

By the way, I opted out. I see no reason that the government needs to know anything about a small little backyard farm. I do not breed, sell, slaughter or do anything that should warrent them knowing what I have. It actually was very sneaky, the letter was dated October 30th and I received it November 19th! They give you 30 days, well one sentence says 30 days and then the next says 45 to opt out. The 30 day sentence says if they do not hear from you in that time you are automatically entered into the "system". Well, what happened to the 45 days? And how did it take almost three weeks to travel 50 miles within state? I found the whole thing odd.

I have to agree with Cynthia. DONT DO ANYTHING! Dont call....E Mail...write...just act like you never got the info. I for one am not scared of " big brother" I have chickens....BIG DEAL!! I dont sell them for food products, my chickens are not consumed...at least not that I know of. ( cant stop someone else from butchering one I sell, altho I wish I could) I live in the country....MY land is considered " farm land" So big brother, guess what...I HAVE CHICKENS....and guns...and Doberman Pinschers. Wanna come play????

I have several bolt-action+lever-action rifles that my grandfather machined, over 50 years ago. He was both a Master armorer and gunsmith, also a tool and die maker by profession. Since he made these weapons himself, there's no serial numbers on any of the parts. I am also a Master armorer and gunsmith. When the stuff hits the proverbial fan,I'm ready, too!

Boy Carugoman, you are someone I want to know better. LOL. Have been wanting to purchase a gun for a long time now, my ex got the ones we had in the divorce, but don't want to register with the government for no other reason than the have NO business knowing. Geesh, what a blessing that you have all those guns, I bet they are beautiful too.

And I agree that you should totally IGNORE that stupid meaningless letter. I mean, who are we talking about anyway. As if the government is actually going to be organized enough to follow up and keep track of who was supposed to reply by when. RIGHT!! IN YOUR DREAMS!!!

That's exactly the letter I got StandardHen. If you don't want your information entered you have 45 days from the date of the letter. But if they don't hear from you within 30 days, they'll put you into the Federal database anyways...
