Well ACTUALLY dogs can not understand english but they CAN understands tones. Which means if you tone is high and sing songy and happy they will be happy because they know your happy with them. But if you raise your voice(yelling) in a low and loud tone they will know your mad at them....that type of tone should only be used when you are reprimanding them if they've done something wrong. You should NEVER turn around and yell at your dog for no reason.

If they don't understand, then how is ANY dog trained to sit, stay, come, fetch, down, off... etc etc etc. They DO have to understand words to do these things.
Tone of voice is entirely different than understanding words. I can say 'sit' in a happy or mad voice, they still sit.
