My chicks are almost 3 weeks old and today I noticed one of them had a rather crusty looking back. Her feathers seemed matted together and it was scary to see her grooming herself and see how naked and pink she looked. She is still pretty lively so I'm hoping it's something easily taken care of. All the other chicks are fine with normal downy/feathered backs and wings.
Any idea on what may have caused this and how I can prevent future incidents? I used some gentle soap and water to rinse off the stuff as best I could and set her under the heat lamp to dry.
