Crusty membrane... what shoud I do?

All you have to do when the membrane starts drying out like that is spray them with warm water to moisten it.

Glad Blackberry is doing great! You could run to the feed store and get him a buddy, or at the very least put a mirror in the brooder near the light so he can see himself and not feel so lonely, and third, hang a feather duster so that the ends of the feathers just barely touch the floor of the brooder and he will go in there to feel safe and to keep warm. Good luck and keep us posted how he (SHE, what was I THINKING!!!) does.
