In the Netherlands the following colours are accepted.

Large and Bantam:
Black
White
Double-laced
Double-laced Blue
Double-laced Silver

In Germany they have also other equal coloured Barnevelders than Black and White. They have created the Red Barnevelder, but to me it is a RIR.
They also created a cuckoo coloured Barnevelder and this colour looks like the Bielefelder breed to me.

Some Dutch people are trying to create the Jubilee and the Silver Double-laced Blue.
The Dutch Barnevelder Club only accept Double-laced Barnevelders, but I must have said that they actually don't want any other colour variants.

In the Netherlands we currently have problems with the tails of the Large Barnvelder cockerels.
These are not complete, they are missing the sickles. Maybe it is because of a feather grow clog/brake, we don't know for sure.

Wrong tail

Correct tail

Donna Beattie took over for Johan
I have 9 of her Barnies i dont have incubator so i drove 5.5 hours to pick them up
Her website is www.fossilrockfarm.com
She is in New Woodstock ny
I do have some 100% Johans and have been using 100% Johan roos for 4 years now. I would usually go to his farm and pick up a new one or two every year. I have one rooster who is 3/4 Johan and 1/4 Peace of Thyme who I use sometimes. Right now my flock consists of:

4 Johan hens
4 1/2 Johan & 1/2 Peace of Thyme
1 Kelley Cratty
1 3/4 Johan & 1/4 Kelley Cratty
3 Johan roosters
1 3/4 Johan & 1/4 Peace of Thyme

Then I have a bunch of pullets and roos I am watching and I'm still hatching some special mixtures! This can be a lot of fun but it can also drive one a little crazy!

I can tell you that my Johan roosters, everyone of them has had a lot of red and no lacing on the chest. I still get a fair amount of feather nubs between the toes and an occasional feather on the leg.

My goal with my flock is to keep breeding Johan into it until there is just a minuscule amount of Peace of Thyme and Kelley Cratty in them. I am selecting those to keep and breed by their lineage, their appearance and their egg color.

My Johans have always had pretty good egg color. The Peace of Thyme and Kelley Cratty were much lighter.

The Peace of Thyme flock was taken over by Larry Golden, I think he is in Oklahoma?

There is not much information on the Kelley Cratty line, although I believe he imported birds from the Netherlands like Johan did.

I like to call the Peace of Thyme Barnies MOs (for Missouri), the Johan's JOs, and the Kelley Cratty's KCs. So you if you have a 1/2 Peace of Thyme and 1/2 Johan its a MOJO. If it's 1/4 Peace of Thyme and 3/4 Johan, its a MOJOJO and so on. This works for me. I feel like we do need some standardized abbreviations, whatever they are...I guess mine is FR? Should we make a list?
Or we can just keep writing out the whole name, just an idea, and they dont have to be the ones I suggested, anything would help me, I'm a slow typist!

Donna

Hey if you pair them up and select them it is your lineage, not to show off someone elses feathers if you don't have the same taste as the previous breeder has. Its simply a barnevelder and not a mojo it makes it too complicated and makes no sense to me. The looks and utility is what makes it a good one, no matter what line it is. Mine have numbers for identification , i toe punch and its simple.

I agree with you but people usually want to know the lines.

That is the case more so just in north america, but honestly when they are in someone elses hands they can become different for better or worst very fast. I like to see the birds for myself and if they are very good, who cares what lineage they are from. Its always the first question they ask here and will sell hatching eggs stating only the previous handler name as if they all look cookie cutter alike, but without pictures..

Bev Davis BCMs are advertised so often around here that you would think it was part of the breed name.

Are bcm's bantam cukoo marans
What does this have to do with Barnevelders????

The point being made by normanack was simply in agreement with what Piet had just posted. Some strain or breeder's names are used in conjunction with a breed so much that it would appear to be conjoined. Hope that clears that up.
