CT Chicken Fest Cancelled b/c State does not want us to have one

I don't know I was wondering the samething. All we really want to do is have a legit get together for the poutlry Peeps of CT!! You would think if we do it very Biosecure like they would be thrilled but, I guess we will have to wait and see.....

Sorry everyone, After a 30+ min discussion with the State of CT Vet this function is cancelled. Unfortunately she is too nervous for spread of disease and wants a sole person to be 100% responsible for all admissions, sales, tracking, etc. I'm sorry I do not think that is within my capability. If I didn't have two jobs and a farm to take care of maybe I could of done this but, at this point in time, I just don't have the time.

If anyone else wants to do it please feel free to PM me for details I rec'ved from the State.

Thanks,
Beth

So she would rather we all sell our birds to each other willy nilly and under the table than in a controlled environment where everyone's birds have been tested? Ridonkulous!

So- I know CT has had chickenstocks before... Was it just that no one called the vet?

Hi New Chick,

Whether you sell one bird or many birds off your farm in the state of CT you are required to be an approved dealer for the State of CT dept of Ag. I am already approved but, I can't see a simple backyard flock keeper going through all the motions just to go to one chicken festival. I guess we have a stricter dept of Ag?

Tina, I totally agree w you and I guess ur better off doing it on the down low then out in the open? Who knows! I just wanted to do it to get us all together for like a chickie get together vrs a big salew thing but, I guess its a big no no in the state of CT.

Well. maybe we just need to have a chicken party! talk chicken, show each other pictures, ask questions. There is a chicken meetup group in Westchester, but I kind of wasn't for me.

You should have seen the PA chicken stock I went to last year. No bio-security to speak of. it was allot of fun, but I've decided not to buy from strangers like that again. The birds I got were gorgeous, but 3 out of 4 (all from one person) died in the first year despite great effort, Vet care, and expense leaving me broken hearted. (The vet said they were full of infection. )

Beth, do you have to be a dealer in order to GIVE AWAY a chicken? Or, say, TRADE a chicken fir other goods and/or services?

Hmmmmm. Party, eh? How many people (clutching photos of their chickens that may or may not be in the trunk of their car) are we talking about who may or may not be willing to drive to the Naugatuck Valley area on, say, the first weekend in October?
