Okay- I have a really stupid question here, LOL. I don't quite understand how these chickenstock things work. I'm in CT, (Firedove's friend she mentioned). From what I've been reading on the posts- it sounds like a fun day to socialize with other poultry lovers and maybe buy and/or sell some chicks. What do I need to know about how it works? Are children welcome? (my girls do poultry for 4H).

You've got the right idea, Kristen. It's just a fun day to socialize with BYC members in CT (and a few from MA and NY) There will be chickens to trade or buy/sell, a tag sale, a seedling/plant swap, and what is shaping up to be a great potluck. Children are welcome, so bring your girls. How many would you be?

Okay- sounds like fun. We'll be there. It'll be me, my daughters who are 11 and 12, and my two little ones, 2 1/2 yr old boy and 4 yr old girl (who is a chicken-a-holic already, she started doing "showmanship" this past fall- really cute to watch- and she knew every body part the judge asked her, LOL)
So- we bring food to share, anything in particular? I'll have chicks to bring- just not sure what yet, I'll figure that out later today.

I am looking for (I am a 4H leader) for kids in my club- probably like 4 japanese hens (any variety) or chicks, one mom fell in love with my daughter's OEG hen and wants a couple for herself (funny how that happens to the mom's in 4H clubs, LOL).

Hi, My name is Lori, I'm in RI. We would love to come to your chickenstock day. My husband and I are trying to find RI laws on byc... I've followed the links in the threads here, and I'm still at a loss, finding only two things having to do with poultry, and thats how you kill it (for those who raise them for meat) you must do it in a humane way so the chicken, turkey, etc... feels no pain. And that its against the law to dye them. I can not find any other laws... If anyone knows anything, I would appreciate your input.

The Chickenstock sounds like a blast, and about two years ago my husband and I both took a bee keeping class together, I know he would be THRILLED to see your bee hives!

If there is still room for more, let me know, and also what type of food you would like/need.

What type of items are ok for the tag sale?

and do I understand we can purchase chicks while there? if so does anyone plan to have female white leg horns? (are they cold hardy chickens??) I hear they are terrific layers!

Hi Lori, welcome!! I'm in Eastern CT, not far from the RI border. Hope you are able to join us. I had trouble finding any ordinances for our town on the town's website. I finally had to call and ask. Just last week there was an article in the paper about a woman who wants to change it so that it isn't just those of us on the outskirts of town but people in the city itself who can have chickens.
