They have an awful lot of black in them, did they come from a color cross?

yes, the second one is from a furness cock and gold wheaton hen. i have some smut wheatons and she is very different from them, almost black patterned and gold.

If you had a male from a solid Wheaten line, I'd breed her to him to see what she threw. How old is she?

I wanted to talk a bit about "gold wheaten" hens. Is such a thing really possible? If I breed a wheaten cock to a silver wheaten hen, this will result in all gold wheaten males, and all regular wheaten hens, at least, that's the results I get. If breed a gold cock on wheaten hens, I will get 1/2 silver hens, and 1/2 regular wheaten hens, 1/2 wheaten, and 1/2 gold wheaten males. So, when you all say'gold wheaten hens', do you mean genetically, in terms of descent, or what? Because my "gold wheaten' hens look like regular wheaten hens. I thought silver/gold was a sex-linked trait, and only males could be "gold', females are either "red" or silver. So, am I wrong, am I missing something here?

Have you tried your gold males over your silver females? Should give you both gold and silver offspring. Mating gold over wheaten usually gives gold or wheaten offspring, and now that I think about.. the females were all either wheaten or silver, males came gold or wheaten. Huh...

The pullet I posted came out of a silver (with gold on his wingbar) cock over wheaten hens, I believe. I'll see if I can find the photo the breeder posted up at one time.
