Cubalaya Thread For Sharing Pics and Discussing Our Birds

I feel like I’m butting in on a conversation here because this isn’t a cubalaya question but were these the birds ordered from sandhill preservation? I am considering ordering from them next year but i have never ordered chicks before and they are almost 12 hours from me. Can you tell me more about your experience with them?
Yes from sandhill . Not a good experience. 27 birds shipped. 12 lived. One BB red Cubalaya wheaton pullet. I truly wanted some of his red pyle Cubalayas but not one lived. If you order, make it later in the season like May or June ship date

Thank you! I will make a note of it!

Oh well, if i really want some red pyles, i have the genetics in some of my whites and i have a wheaton pullet so could raise some. I doubt if i will. I am building a new chicken coop for different breeds of layers just so i can have a colorful egg basket year around. Will probably keep one hen of each of these breeds: Cuckoo Maran, White Empordanesa, Easter egger, Black Ameraucana, Black Australorp, Black Dorking, Buff Orpington, Silver laced Wyandotte, Wheaton Cubalaya, and White Cubalaya along with the birds already here

I hardly sell live birds anymore, toward the end of 2024 I went from 100+ bantam and standard combined to 27 birds. Eleven standard and the rest are bantam.
I have mostly blacks, a couple whites and a blue hen in standard size.
In bantams I have a couple duns, one solid pullet and a golden crow wing cockerel, a couple wheaten hens, a khaki breeding male, four blues and six blacks.
Do you know where I can get some standard size whites?

Not of the pullet but if you scroll back a page you can see the hen and cock. I asked in January if anyone wanted Cubalayas. I could have hatched more but nobody answered me. Not raising any more chicks after 2025 of any breed. Been doing this 40+ years, time to enjoy retirement. Any birds left here in October will be here for the rest of their life or mine
I have sent you a PM

Well 2 of y'all sent money for eggs. I lost my young cock to a possum. Hopefully these 0° temps wont kill my oldest cock. My daughter is willing to give me some of her eggs( her Cubalayas all came from me) splash, black, brown red and i can add these to my white eggs if you like. This will probably be in March

So sorry to hear this. I had possums attack my chickens in the Amazon, but I have never had it happen here in Texas. Is this a common thing where ypu live?

I had my first possum attack a month ago. I knew they could kill chickens but I was surprised all the same. Somehow it carried a full grown Orpington several yards from the barn and all I ever found were feathers. Trapped the possum a week later. I don’t mind killing raccoons but I did not like having to kill a possum because I consider them useful in other respects.
