Cubalaya Thread For Sharing Pics and Discussing Our Birds

I agree with you Stan, the Cubalaya is much better looking then shamos, but then you have people that think Frizzles are cute too. I think frizzles look like a chickens that was just dunked in boiling water and it waiting to be plucked.

But you want to know what is unarguably cute? This flock of 11 Silver Sebrights I just bought.

I know this has been discussed before, but real quick, what's the difference between BBred and Wheaton with the Cubas? I think I'll be splitting an order with a gentleman and thought I would get a few Cuba bantams to see what they look like, BBred or Wheaton?

I am no expert, but it appears that when it comes to Cubas at least, BBred and Weaten are synonymous. In American Games there is a difference in the hens when it comes to BBReds. A true AG BBRed hen is stippled in coloring according to Saladin. But when it comes to Cubas, a BBRed female is Wheaten colored. But even in AG's the difference between a Wheaten Male and a BBRed male is almost non-existent (at least to me). Here are some examples.

AG Wheaten Female

AG Stippled Female

AG BBRed Male

AG Wheaten Male

Cubalaya Wheaten Female

Cubalaya BBRed Male

Cubalayas are altered wheatens... But are called BBRed. They are genetically wheaten. There were, and may still be stippled cubas. Cackle has BBRed stippled cubas and wheatens, but their both extremes and are more related to OEGB colors thang the actual cubas.

where are you getting them from if they are from a hachary i wouldn't get them because i got some last year and the cockerls were very nicely colored but the pullets were too light and had black on their back. as for the type they look like leghorns with low tails also the feather quality was of too. these were from cackle and i have heard they have the best bantam cubas. although if you order a large enough amount you could het some good ones. about 4 years ago we first tried some and got bird that won bird of show at a 350+ bird of show. this is him

Oh, that's interesting, how did he produce? But yea, I think I better not waste my time. like I said, we were just splitting an order and I figured I'd try a few to see what I got, but again, I'm not convinced I should waste my time & money.

i did not have a chance to breed him because he just up and died when i was going to but i hadn't breed him earlier because i wanted to see how he would turn out. another point i didn't mension i dont know if it was just him but he had a short life span. also about all the pullets died of being eggbound.
