Cubalaya Thread For Sharing Pics and Discussing Our Birds

Are there any private breeders that will ship day old chicks or am I limited to hatcheries?

I've ordered twice from Ideal and it's been ugly. First batch all eight Cubes were doa...Barred Rocks pulled thru. Second order I upped it to 10 Pullets and 4 males...lost 3 males and 5 females so far. Pasty butt has been bad and others just fell over, kicked and it was done.

I had the same experience chick from Ideal when I first started. I wrote the a long letter detailing my experience with their line of cubalayas. If you are looking for good hatchery quality chicks I would order from Welp. I ordered 25 from them last year and they have done great and look very good for hatchery birds.

hey jungle, i like the bb reds at the top but do you think we could add a pair of whites and blacks too? can we keep the dues at 0 for awhile. i haven't even renewed my sppa membership yet. money has been tight. when can we join?

When John Castignetti Was alive and told me his duckwing cubalays came from Craig and had big white earlobes, and was also told that there was phoenix in them to create the duckwing color. The same was so with my first goldens they had big white earlobes back in the early 90s. They had long tails and white earlobes what could cause this? Take a Look back at john castignettis photos of his blue reds and black reds and duckwings at how long the tail was dragging. Those photos were in poultry press many times in for sale ads. As well as Rick Herr.
John's duckwings came from the Padgetts. On that one (as well as the others) I'm absolutely sure. Danny told me that as well as Dave K.
Again, we will just disagree.

I have the oldest articles related to the creation of the Cubalaya and the proper way to interprete the Standard description on my computer. However, I can't get your email addy to work.

Hey cubalaya. I have already pre-paid for the expenses for the website for one year. This is my gift to the club and my way of saying thank you to all of you for all the help you have given me over the last year and for putting up with me.

I am not asking for any financial help for this, but thank you for thinking about it.

Are you saying you want to add more representations of Cubalaya (blacks and whites) to the logo? I can do that if everyone agrees, but it will take some time. You see, the whole site is designed around the colors of that logo. I custom made every single one of the graphics on the site to be color coordinated with the logo. The one thing that I realized when I took this step is that everyone of the cubalaya breeders on forum are strongly opinionated people. I think that, in order to avoid conflict of personality, the first thing we need to do is get a membership, create a voting system for members and elect a leader whom we all respect as the authority on the subject of Cubalayas to serve as the ultimate authority on what we put on the site. I personally am not qualified to comment on the accuracy of anything so I will do what you guys want, but I would like for there to be some agreement between all of you so I don't get caught in a tug of war. There are several people on this forum that I consider to be authorities on this subject. The question is, are they willing to accept positions in the club. I like Zach's suggestion of setting up a dedicated forum to work on the club. We could us it to nominate officials and vote on additions to the site. Obviously, since I just did this yesterday on my own without notice, it will take some time for everyone to hear about it and decide what part they will play. I can only provide the spark, I cannot get the fire going on my own.

If and when we elect some officers, I will give them their own custom @cubalayaclub.org POP email address and create for them a custom logo (once we all agree on a logo), with their title.

My desire is simple, I want to create a club to unit all of those that love Cubalayas for the preservation and improvement of the Cubalaya breed and create the most comprehensive informative site about the Cubalaya breed on the internet.

Vaughn, I really like the logo, just the accuracy of the males color being so dark, when cubalayas should have such bright vibrant color to them, i don't mind anything about it just the color(I guess that's my opinion coming through, I guess beggars can't be choosers ;) ) I think the color scheme works well either way, as I think adding all the colors to the logo gets too busy. Thank you so much!

I can do a little graphic design but I am a horrible artist. I looked through thousands of pictures on the web trying to find a suitable artistic representation of the Cubalaya. They are almost non-existent. I found the one Gallorojo uses as his avatar and the one I used for the logo. The full size picture looks like it was scanned out of a book. If at some point someone who is an artist wants to make a better one, I am all game. I would like to add some quality real photos to the home page.
