Cubalaya Thread For Sharing Pics and Discussing Our Birds

I wanted to let some of you know who may not otherwise find out that my wife delivered our new daughter Tuesday morning. Mother and daughter are both doing well and are home from the hospital now. She was born 3 weeks early but is fine and healthy and she was delivered without pain meds even though the labor was long and difficult. Thanks to all of you who offered congratulations and well wishes already!!

Congratulations! Wow, I have had 2 children without pain meds, one was born at home, but both were quick and "easy" (if it can ever be called that

), so I applaud her and her willpower. I know it would not be bird related, but would love to see pics of your new miracle.

Congratulations gallo! The years really do fly by with kids. It will seem like no time until you are fretting about driver's licenses etc.

I weighed my favorite cockerel from this hatch - he is 1.69 # at 8.5 weeks old. A lot heavier than I thought. I need to take some pics, his tail is looking very promising.

i dont know if it's just me but that sounds kind of small? not sure exactly where the standards should be at that age though . would love to see pics

Congratulations to you and your family on this wonderful Blessed event.

Not to brag or anything but I'm lucky enough to share a birthday with Mariska :) Congrats to you and Amanda!

Vaughn, I'd like to see pictures of the whelp birds. They are laying incredibly early, but that can be expected from hatchery birds. I'm happy that they are still turning out for you though. If like the weights when you get a chance as well.

Happy Birthday to you !

Also thanks to the rest of you as well, I do appreciate the well wishes. This is a big deal, as it's the first girl in my immediate family. I have a son already, 2 nephews, and a brother-we all are ready for something new...lol..

In chicken news, I hatched out and still have alive 17 chicks from last week, and 9 more hatched today, with more due Saturday. Pretty much in every color possible...It will be fun watching them grow!!

I will try to get some fresh pics and weights for you tomorrow. Their feathering and color is really starting to look good, especially the cockerels. But the main thing I like is their attitude. They run up to the edge of the fence to meet me each day like a dog wanting to be petted. In the pen they are all around my feet and I can just pick them up. They will perch on my arm like parrots. This is not something I trained them to do, it is natural to them. I have raised thousands of chicken in my life and I have never seen chickens like this. I have to say though, that the other Cubas I have are not like this, only the Cubas from Welp. All my other Cubas are flighty and do not like to be picked up. I have to give credit to whoever the breeder is at Privett (that's where the Welp birds come from) for preserving this quality in their Cubas.
