Cubalaya Thread For Sharing Pics and Discussing Our Birds

She never did lay any eggs. I don't know what her issue was. In late winter she was acting a bit sickly and we medicated her with generic Baytril, but she never improved. Shortly after It was clear that she is not going to get better she was snatched by a hawk.

Looks good from here. Is he plenty dark and will he be lighter as an adult? Or does he look dark because of the rainy weather?

troyer, do you cull the yellow legged pullets? I don't because I only get a couple every year and usually they have extra good tails and good size. the stags, if I ever get any more, will be culled. is there also something wrong with the chick's beak? or is it just the pic?

If my yellow legged pullets were exceptional I would breed from them. My yellow legged pullets have hardly even resembled the Cubalaya breed, but all the white legged ones have. The beak looks the way it does because the chick is calling for it's mother. It's as healthy a chick as I've ever raised. From my whites I have never gotten a yellow legged white cockerel, I just now thought about it. It never dawned on me before this. I wonder why that is. I've gotten blacks with yellow pads...

for a couple years I hatched a lot of yellow legged white males. they usually had a few black specks in their feathers. glad that chick is alright.
