Cubalaya Thread For Sharing Pics and Discussing Our Birds

Pics
I had 2 "white" cubalaya pullets share a nest last year and they hatched some crazy amount of chicks, over 12 for sure. That usuallly does not work, but, i thought i would try it and see, and it was ok, but, i have not tried it since. Your wheaten hen seems pretty nice, tail looks better than the white.

Still don't have any cubas. Some how I got into getting cochin and easter eggers since all the junk I was reading about hatchery birds, I wish I would have just gone with the cubas that Ideal has....... Anyway, should be heading down to louisiana early next month so does anyone down that way have any cubas?

Well, I cleared out my breeding pens tonight. No more eggs will be set this year. I do still have 4 hens setting, but all should be done by July 4 or close to it. I think I am just short of 60 Cubans hatched so far, maybe will hit 70 before I'm done. Hopefully I will get a few decent ones with good size, heads, and tails, in that order.

She is very nice in size and tail, but long in the beak. One of her probable sons is a beefy fellow, he has a nice short, stout beak.

Another picture of them...

The larger one on the R has gray/white legs, but a little yellow in the beak. Is this yellow likely to remain as he grows up?

If the legs are white at all, check the soles of the feet, his beak will eventually be white or at least horn colored . If his soles are yellow, the beak will keep some yellow.

That's hard to answer. A large typy hen with a nice temperament, and good vigor...

Well, you know the pyles are not an APA accepted variety. Also, they are really variable, some are wheaten based pyles, as they ought to be, but, some are wild type/duckwing based, and I've even seen birchen based pyles. Then you have the splash pyles from blue red matings..If you want more pyles, either breed to another pyle, or to wheaten. Really, you can do whatever you like, as, ultimately, the pyles are still sort of a project color/variety, my opinion is they should be wheaten based with white legs, but, that's just me.
