Brown red ( almost black) pullet. This one has the best tail so far of any of the brown red/ black/ white family, good spread, cushion, etc. She also has totally red lobes, a good head and short beak, multiple spurs, red eyes, and white skin. Problems are she is too dark for a proper brown red, and has too much red for a proper black, plus she has jet black shanks, would prefer them blue/slate on the blacks and brown reds both. Overall though she is a big improvement in many ways over her mother. She is the result of a BB Red male over a solid black female, both parents were Zook birds.

If you will contact Jim Zook then you'll end up with lots better birds than Ideal has. Zach in CA rec'd his original birds from Zook.

The Zook birds are very typey and stylish. I do like them alot; though I don't have any myself.
The major difference I've noticed in straight Zook birds and my own is that my males have larger (as in wider) tail feathers.
Still, those Zook birds have some really fine looking double tails.

Just my thoughts.

what is the best way to contact mister Zook? I googled his name but I could not find any contact info for him, only references to his Birds.

Here is a poor pic of the pullet but y'all get the idea. Thoughts?

I think she is pretty good. Keep her for some time and see how she turns out in a few more months, especially watch the tail. Do you only have the pullet? If you like her and want a male for her let be know and I can direct you to some good bantam breeders.

i am well pleased with my zook bb red. his type and color is great. i can't take my eyes off him some days. and these 2 pullets from gallorojo, they are zook blood too? they are getting some decent size and i like the color. they are also very tame and hop right up to eat from my hand.

His contact info is on the link I posted. As of last weekend he still had a few for sale.

Thanks a million. I fired off an email to him. I sure hope he has some. I have three cockerels that I got from Ideal. When I ordered, I order 12 BBRs and 12 Blue Reds. They only sent seven and I don't know which type they are. They are only four months old now. Here is a picture I took about a month ago. Can you tell what they are? They sure don't look like BBRs to me, so I am guessing Blue Reds. But then again, this is my first time to ever see cubalayas, so I have no idea what they are supposed to look like at three months.

If you are going to keep those Ideal birds and use them then you'd be better off with a pullet from Jim Zook than a cockerel; if you have a choice. If you can get a pullet and a cockerel then keep the Ideal birds as back up only. After you get off some chicks from the Zook birds then KILL the Ideal birds and just breed the Zook birds.

I am trying to get a couple hens from Zook to breed my Ideal cockerels. That is why I need to know what variety my cockerels are. Of course if I can afford a Zook rooster I will buy one, but I am guessing a rooster from him might run in the multi-hundred dollar range and I just don't have that kind of cash right now. I invested all my money in Gamefowl before I ran across Cubalayas. I am in debt on that project and am trying to sale off some of my best roosters to raise funds for my Cubayala effort, but finding a buyer for Gamefowl roosters this time of the year has been impossible. I have some really nice birds and the best scenario is where I would find a Cubalaya breeder that wanted to trade a couple of hens for some nice Gamefowl BRR roosters.
