Cubalaya Thread For Sharing Pics and Discussing Our Birds

I will not name figures but Zooks prices are extremely reasonable. He is very fair and honest and does not rip people off or gouge people. You will probably spend more by far on the shipping than what you will on birds. Not cheap but fair, this website does a poor job of representing reasonable chicken prices. I go to my share of shows and many well known breeders offer birds in the sales area,I never have seen a single bird of any breed being sold for more than $ 60 or so. Obviously gamefowl, and some rare breeds may go for more than that, but I would not pay much more than 60-80 for any typical bird unless it won several shows as best in class or show. That's just my opinion.

Thanks. That makes me feel better. I guess I just got use to seeing Gamefowl prices and WHEW! they can go pretty high! I can afford $60 easy. I was thinking $50 for a hen. Now I am really waiting to hear if he has some for sale.

Cubalayas as has been said are not expensive. I've never sold one from more than $25. I've given away lots more than I've sold. Generally the shipping is 3 times the sale price.

People that charge outrageous prices for barnyard chickens are just scam artists in my personal opinion.

I guess the difference is that some people love the chickens and some people just love money.

I agree. I am only trying to sale my roosters for $15, even though I was stupid and paid hundreds for my breeding stock. I think part of the problem is that some people like to spend more, because it makes them feel like they are getting something better. Ross may have a dress for $10 that Dillards sales for $100, but some women will buy the dress from Dillards anyways. I know some people that raise tiny dogs (I do computer tech support for them on occasion). You would not believe what people will pay for these dogs. I am talking about thousands, not hundreds. Of course that price includes airfare for her to pay someone to fly and hand deliver the dog, but good grief! What surprised me, is not how much they sale dogs for, but how much some people are willing to pay. It is these people that drive prices up to outrageous levels. When I first got into Games, I paid too much out of shear ignorance. I just thought that is what they were worth. I know better now.

I took a couple of pictures today.

I took some pictures today. This is Fay just starting a dust bath in pine shavings.

I didn't know what I got when I took this picture until I uploaded it. If I had seen this picture rather than taken it, I would swear she met a horrible death!

And this is Peep with her red comb. Come on Peep, lay me an egg!

Full sibling young cubalaya crosses. Mother is a completely white cubalaya hen, father is a mix of cubalaya, old english game and sumatra. Early June hatch.

Pictures of the other siblings Darker cockerel. Pullet in second picture is off white. Bottom picture is white pullet with black specks.

noticed that you use the word cross a lot instead of grades. are you using any of these birds to grade back to pure cubalaya? are you just experimenting making crossbreds to try different breeds? some of them are pretty unique looking. a few years back, i crossed some cubalaya on some dual purpose breeds but it had nothing to do with looks or even color. more for eggs and meat and hybrid vigor. i crossed mine on heritage rhode island reds, australorps, and hatchery barred rocks. only the barred rocks really turned out like i thought. they were a tasty experiment but they are all gone.

I initially was not planning on using these as breeders, just an experiment. Now I'm planning to at least breed the off white pullet in some way not sure about the cockerels. I guess I'll let them develop more and see how they fill out.
