what is rjf? the hen is a wild type wheaton or gold wheaton.

ohh red jungle fowl. i know someone that calls them red cubalayas

nice birds but only the male will be showable because they are RJF bbred not cubalaya bbred but not that that is a bad thing. we use to keep some pretty nice ones but sold them also their tails and backs arnt a strait line, but they have red earlobe which i have seen in most of the bantams some of mine have it but im working on getting it out. also your male has red on his breast which you will need a mut hen to fix. do you where ron is located and where he got his origonal stock.

I have no clue where Ron got his original. Like I said I did not get them directly from him. I just had a judge look at them and she liked them quite a bit, I'm going to show them in October and see how they do.

The female will not do well due to her color. Do you know the state they originated or where you are located? Also what judge? it seems she may not be qualified to judge them apparent to her little knowledge in the fact they are actually wheaten, not BBRed. I suggest talking to Tim Bowsher, Catherine, Jim Zook or the Wheelers. Good luck with them!

I know I shared pictures but I did not ask for opinions on them. I'm sure all of you have good intentions, however these are the first pair of bantam Cubalayas I have EVER seen. They are one of my "secret obsessions," I guess you could say, as far as birds go. So I jumped on the offer to get them. I know they need to be improved in a lot of areas and I'm prepared for that. How many of you have seen a bantam Cubalaya in person? I have one for not since I saw these ones, so I think these are better to start breeding with then any hatchery bird. Thanks for your comments, and I'm sorry if I offended anyone for saying this, but I feel it needed to be said. And yes I understand a lot of you have been breeding Cubalayas a looong time and know what you are talking about. I will take what you people have said for sure into mind when start hatching; but for now I'd like to wait on opinions until I show them and can talk to a judge in person about them

Do you see largefowl cubalaya where you are located? Many, MANY judges just look at a cubalaya and judge on condition... Why? Because they are clueless. Granted there are judges scattered across the US that know a thing or two, but many times the help doesn't come from judges, but realistically from fellow breeders. I did not intend to hurt your feelings, just set you straight on what Cubalayas really look like. I strongly suggest still to get birds from one of the named breeders... It will save you ten years of breeding, literally. Good luck with the judges opinions,

Now that my last Ideal Cuba is gone and I am "Cubalayaless". I have decided to stay with the breed and placed an order with Sand Hill for this fall. I am looking towards next spring as well and I inquired about Stromberg's SQ Cubalayas. This was the response:

I am not sure exactly how to answer this.  Cubalaya originated from Cuba.
The show quality stock we offer are from Master Breeder and Poultry Judge
Duane Urch.  I spoke to him about the bloodlines.  He said he acquired the
original stock over thirty years ago and quite honestly he doesn't really
remember what the bloodlines are.  Duane said he guesses they are his
bloodlines now.  I am not sure if this answers your questions or not but
that is about the best I can come up with.  I apologize that I don't have
any specifics other than that.  If you have more questions, let me know and
I will try to answer them.  

I'm not sure if the "regular" Cubas are from Urch as well..I asked as a follow up and am waiting for a reply. I'm thinking about ordering some Urch birds next year. So now I have to figure out if I should get the $4 regular unleaded Cubas from Stromberg, their $10 SQ premium Urch birds or just order directly from Urch for $7. Just trying to make sense of it all.
