Strombergs has them and I think they sell SQ too, but maybe someone else can answer that because I have no idea if that's accurate.

The Ideal birds are just ok. Not great, but not as bad as some other breeds they claim to offer. Mostly, they are just too small. Not always multiple spurred, and not always colored as advertised, if you buy the blue wheatons, you could get a lot of various colors. Some have decent type, others, the type is somewhat lacking. If you don't care if they are not up to the standard, and you just want pretty birds to free range around, they would be ok. I want my birds to all be up to the SOP, but, they are not there yet...it may take a long time before they are!! I really think that the writers of the standard knew what they were doing, and that if these birds were up to the standard, more people would take them more seriously as layers, and eating birds.

stromburgs has some show quality bb reds for about $9 a chick and you must buy 25 total. ideal is a hatchery so you would get hatchery quality, but its something to start with. if you still want some from me this summer, let me know. they will be better than hatchery as far as type.

Really amazing birds. I am seriously thinking about ordering some from Ideal. Are their birds OK? Don't need sq.

Their birds are fine for not being SQ. They will be a bit on the smaller side, around 4 - 5 lbs for the cock and 2 - 3 lbs for the hen. Their Blue/Reds have been throwing golden duckwings also, so if you ordered the blue/reds you'd get a little of the wheaten/BBR, Gold duckwing, Blue/Reds, Splash wheaten, etc..​

I've never ordered birds from Strombergs, but I know they contract with breeders for the SQ stock. You might be able to give them a call and find out who they're contracted with for the cubalaya.

My husband had seen the Strombergs catalog when I was going through it over a year ago. He wasn't really that into the chickens, but built me some great brooders, runs and coops and we were rebuilding here before he died, so things are so so. Anyway he looked over my shoulder and i had the Cubas circled. He saw the roo and said thats the rooster you have to get if you're going to start adding roosters.

Right now I have 12 roos??? Maybe a few more in the brooders, but no Cubas, so I need to get one because he actually picked one out.

I like the blue red ones at Ideal wow those are pretty. I am skeptical of getting hatchery Cubalayas but its kinda like the Buttercups, there are hardly any breeders...
