Yes I am! Where in CA is he?

My husband had seen the Strombergs catalog when I was going through it over a year ago. He wasn't really that into the chickens, but built me some great brooders, runs and coops and we were rebuilding here before he died, so things are so so. Anyway he looked over my shoulder and i had the Cubas circled. He saw the roo and said thats the rooster you have to get if you're going to start adding roosters.

Right now I have 12 roos??? Maybe a few more in the brooders, but no Cubas, so I need to get one because he actually picked one out.

Turlock, CA, I believe.

Here's a photo of one of the flocks he and his dad have been working with: http://poultrybookstore.blogspot.com/2009/03/cubalayas.html

WOW that's like 15 minutes from me!

Ideals birds throw lots of colors. before we got into SQ we got a batch of chicks from ideal. half blue red and half bbred. well only like 8 or 9 lived and we picked 3 hens. out of these we got the whole duckwing specrum(bbred, bluered, all duckwings and some splash birds that were not like a wheaton splash they were like a bluered or solid blue splash)

Yes i might have some available. Have you ever been to JS West. We sell alot there on, 9th and G... i believe

I wanted to jump in to hear everyones thoughts on my 2 Cubalaya roos. I'm not planning to breed and while I got them from a breeder, he doesn't breed Cubalaya's so I don't really know where they came from. They do look cool IMO.

They are golden duckwing colored, or gold wheaten since cubalaya colors are wheaten based.

#1 not liking the tail on him, but if he's a young bird it may fall as he matures to a more below horizontal position. Full tail maturation takes about 2 - 3 years.

#2 is your better of the two, closer to type.

If you got them from a breeder who doesn't breed cubalaya, they likely came from one of the few hatcheries that offer them. Ideal would be the main source. Most other places drop ship from Ideal unless they keep their own breeder flocks or contract with established breeders.

Looking forward to seeing the pullets.

'Course, if you are wanting to keep a breeding flock of Cubalaya, sell those or keep strictly as pets, and contact CubaKid for some that are up to the Standard of Perfection.

Thanks, but I don't need any more chickens right now. At least at the moment.

The guy I got them from got then from someone he was buying other hatching eggs from and decided to try these out. They are only about 10 months old so they are still young. Both can hold their tails high when they are getting away from the head roo. I will try to get a picture up of the girl soon. Thanks for the comments. They are just pets and fun to watch.
