Cubalaya Thread For Sharing Pics and Discussing Our Birds

Pics

Some young Cubalayas in a variety of unusual colors. The top 2 pics are birds I got from Cubalaya, originally from Saladins breeding, I'm really happy with them. The final one is my favorite pullet from 2011 season, she is very stocky with a great wide well spread tail, very wide back on here, nice and meaty girl. Sorry about the wire...

Wood&feathers can you post some pictures? Your avatar shows a white, that looks pretty good. May I ask where you got them?

gallorojo - that birchen type pullet in the second photo is beautiful!

wood&feathers - Ahh the mind of a chicken. Good luck predicting that one :) Just wait until laying season starts to peak, just when you don't want them to be broody, then they'll go broody ;-) LOL

The white rooster is from a trio I bought from cubalaya last summer, a white pair with a wheaten hen. Very nice birds. The whites are a little small, but the wheaten hen has turned out gorgeous. She weighs as much as the rooster and her tail is very long and full.

The white cockerel was my only rooster, but then he sired a couple gorgeous mutts (RIR x cubalaya) in September. I now have the dilemma of how to split the flock for breeding. I have posted the son, Shaggy, on here in the classifieds. His tail is still growing, and he is getting really big. The only clue to his mixed heritage is his yellow legs. His size is so tempting, but I need more pure cubalayas before messing around with any mixes. I really would prefer to separate the cubalayas, and am hurrying to build a breed pen. I have all the materials but time is the (as usual) problem. The hens have laid all winter and are really pumping them out now.

woods and feathers have you weighed the white cock? the stag in my avatar is all grown now and he is right at 6 lbs. he is a full brother to yours and hatched at the same time.

I haven't weighed him, but when I pick him up he doesn't feel like 6 pounds. He is well fleshed out, and has a gorgeous tail and hackles, but he just isn't very big. If I look at his feet they aren't much different in size from the wheaten hen.
