In may I purchased some chicks from a local hatchery. I ordered all pullets, six EE"s and four Cuckoo Marans. One of the Marans has deep orange legs, feathers more grey than black with white and now I noticed it is getting some brownish feathers just starting to come in around the neck. I assume she is a mix?

Almost sounds like a black sex link rooster, pictures would help.

Here are some pics of the chick in question. I guess she is about 15 weeks now. Supposed to be a Cuckoo Marans but as you see has yellow legs, more grey in color rather than black and although it doesn't show in the pics she has a very little bit of brown coming in on her neck. A mix?

Here are a couple pics of an EE rooster that was supposed to be a gold colored EE hen. Got these chicks from a hatchery in upstate NY.

Oh gosh. That is indeed a mix. Not Marans.

If it were me, a very irate phone call to that hatchery would be my first order of business this week.

That "hatchery" doesn't seem very professional if they'd send you mixes instead of what you ordered.

You are right! I do plan on calling them. Do you think the Maran is a rooster?
