I vote for the Welsummers. Mine are calm birds, lay well, and the roos are what I think a roo ought to look like.

Ok, I will throw another one at you. I adore my pair of Speckled Sussex from Ideal. The hen is very independant of the flock, but not mean. She is a very good free ranger and gets along with everyone, but doesn't follow the crowd. And the roo, well he is my buddy. I just adore him. He comes to my front door in the morning to knock on the glass so I will give him some bread. LOL He is a big fluffy guy also. He would rather eat scratch from your hand than from the ground or feeder also. Her eggs are a bit lighter brown, but we get one every day. I am getting more of this breed, but going with a more expensive breeder for better quaility of color.
