Cuckoo Marans VS Barred Rock... how do you tell? *Edit: Photos!*

I've got a 5 week old, supposedly barred rock chick that was sold as either a BR or a CM

How do you tell the difference between a barred rock and a cuckoo marans?

She has dark coloring, and some muddled white stripeish things
She also has pinky-white-orange legs with a dark wash down the front

I'd love to know how you tell!

the barred rock has strips across the bottom of the feather but the maran has more of a laced feather although im not sure exactly

Can you post pics ? Cuckoo is the same as the barring gene, the difference is in the rate of feathering. Barred Rocks are slow feathering breed so their barring has time to come in and look more crisper, The Marans are a rapid feathering breed and that makes the barred look really blurred and messy.

Pics would help if you can get some.

Okay, got some new pictures taken!

What do you think? Also, input on gender would be greatly appreciated!

What confuses me about whether Pepper is a boy or girl, is that he/she has the female coloring, but small, gray waddles

I have several barred rock hens and none of them looked like that as a chick. I'm not clear on Marans but, if you only had to guess between the two I think it's a Maran.

Looks like my Cuckoo Marans. They have these pinkish legs with black pn them , some more some less black. This one looks very dark, the barring muddled.
My guess is: Cuckoo Maran pullet.

That looks like a Cookoo Maran. One of the easier ways I have found as they get older the BR legs are a distinct yellow, while the CM legs are a pinkish or almost white in color. Hope this helps.
