Cuckoo Silkies- Progress on common faults

Quote:
That's what I was about to say, it's just a genetic thing with the cuckoo pattern, in any breed they will have the pink or mottled shin and combs, just the way cuckoo color/pattern works.

I have a young cuckoo cockerel with a pink comb, but he has a black beak and black feet.

There should be a fairly nice one by Hobosilkies at one of the Spring WA shows. I am looking forward to seeing it.

I'm not in love with cuckoos, but this (hopefully) pullet is nice so far.

Wow!! He looks great!! I do hope he'll stay nice and dark for you.

My cock looked very much like that except a little bit lighter but at over a year old, everything has lightened a bit. His eyes are light brown (really they are gorgeous) and his comb has turned redder than it was. But he has a nice wide body with a great cushion. His beak is light but his toes are black with a tiny bit of speckling.

There is a lady on ebay who has some. I have about a dozen of her eggs in the bator right now. Her name is 1234muki. She has 100% feedback score and some really nice looking birds. I ordered 12+ asst silkie eggs (she also has auctions specifically for cuckoos). And have I think 8 developing (two of which are cuckoo). I have a few of my own silkie eggs in there too so not sure right now of exact numbers on shipped eggs. They were very nicely packaged and no cracks or breaks. Here is a link to her current auction for 6+cuckoo eggs ...now that I just increased my competition to buy more eggs

If you look at the E-Bay photos you will see the females are not too bad, but the male has red comb & wattles, and white ear lobes. These birds will never comply with the SOP, unless you get it changed & I don't like your chances. Pretty pets though.

Here's my cuckoo pullet. She has mottled skin, but my original cuckoos were much lighter in regards to skin and eye color. Crossing with the blacks has helped some, although I doubt they will ever be accepted into the standard as the cuckoo genetics just don't allow for the skin/comb color required of silkies.

Here is my original cuckoo silkie, although males tend to be lighter than females, you can still see he was much lighter than the pullet above.
