Cup o' Joe and Tea Too

I have a few flocks that free range.. had to lock them up for several months last year.. Seems as though when young hawks begin to hunt, they are opportunistic until they gain skills..
Well, it is very sad when we lose our babies to the hawks and eagles. I have had an eagle attack here too, a few years ago. We put up netting over our free range area to deter them. So far so good. But our free range area is only 4,000 SF. Would be hard to do over the whole yard.

The worst part of the eagle attack was that I tried to save one chicken and failed. And another one just died of stress a couple days after the attack. The eagles killed her outright. Rosie never got over seeing her friend killed right in front of her. So sad. 😢
