You never know, he may show up.Good morning everyone. Coffee is ready.
I lost a chicken last night. I just got a new cockerel yesterday morning and just before we closed them all in for the night, he flew over the fence and ran into the forest. We tried to find him but it got too dark. The forest floor is covered with ferns. Too many places to hide. So sad to have lost him. I'm sure he couldn't make it overnight with all the racccoons.

Can you lock your birds in the coop and open the gate to the pen? Or do you have a large box trap that you could set by the coop and bait with feed?Good news! Cooper is alive!!! Now to catch him. He is not wanting to be caught. But he does want back into the coop so there is hope. I will wait until I have reinforcements and go out again. I have a net, but he stays well out of range and runs into the forest whenever I get too close.
What's a box trap? I have a raccoon trap. I don't think he would go through the opening to that. We are going to go out in a bit and open the large coop door, then try to steer him into it. He'll be in the general milieu, but he will be safe. Then we will have to see how he gets along with the rest of the flock. Can you lock your birds in the coop and open the gate to the pen?
