Good morning everyone! I'll have some of that coffee!
We switched our rooster and cockerel for a few days. I keep getting broody hens, but no fertilized eggs. For some reason Cooper goes for the old ladies who don't lay eggs anymore. So Ralphie had a few days with them. Now I have a new broody and I'm hoping she has a few fertilized eggs. I sure do like it when the hens raise their own chicks for me.
When we made the switch back, the girls were so happy to have Cooper back! We do the switches at roosting time, so they were in there just cooing away when he came in. So sweet.
I don't think they liked Ralphie's enthusiasm.
We won't do that again until it's time for late winter/early spring broodies. Ralphie will be older and maybe a little less hormonal.
