Cup o' Joe and Tea Too

Good afternoon/evening everyone! I just had to come in and share some great news!

Today was integration day -- first day of a few days of no rain!!! So, I gave each cockerel 5 hens/pullets, then sat back for 2 hours and watched their behavior. They were both such gentlemen!!!! They have been showing the girls their coops, finding treats for them and generally making good impressions on everyone but Surly, who is broody right now. She is a bit out of sorts because she just lost her favorite brooding spot, but that's not a bad thing, since she is not fertile yet. She'll be fine, and ultimately, this means she'll be able to raise chicks if she wants.

I'll have to go out at dusk and try to entice Mad Hatter into the big coop because his has been the little prefab. He cannot squeeze all his girls into there. :D

All in all, I'm so happy!!! These cockerels were worth all the effort!!! Pippi is doing great with his girls and coop. I wish they were cuddly because I want to pick them up and give them a big hug!!! :hugs

It was on John's island in South Carolina, only a few hours away from St. Simon's! I'm in the middle, it takes me about 2 hours to get to either island, lol. I need to look into this sister tree on St, Simon's!
I have visited both islands...I think they both have those trees. Now I can't remember which one has all the carved trees.

Has your winter been different than usual Cap? One thing about a cold winter, it helps keep the bugs down in the summer.
It has been very warm! I have been out in tshirt and shorts many times this winter. Right now it is 58° F. Rain on the way. We have only had flurries, no snow that piled up. Weird.

I just can't believe it! I was so nervous about this day!!! Getting ready to go out and check on them. Then I'll go out again in an hour or so for dusk and make sure everyone finds a coop to sleep in. All new for a few chickens. :fl
