Cup o' Joe and Tea Too

There was a confirmed case of coronavirus about an hour from where I live...that person just happened to be at a wedding with 150+ people so now everyone is being contacted. We're officially on lockdown.
I'm so sorry to hear about that. :hugs Hope you are and will stay well! Andy your whole family! I have a friend in GA and she says they are taking extreme measures there. Even the meat counters are empty in her grocery store. Is that true in your area? She is in Peachtree.

Your friend is closer to where it all started but it's here now too. It really started to show in the empty shelves over the past week but yesterday was all out madness as people were frantically trying to buy everything to lockdown. There were accidents all over the place, stop and go traffic, I was still able to get some food last night at our little Dollar Store around the corner but I heard that the shelves are empty at the large grocery stores. I honestly think it's more due to the panic and not so much that they won't be restocked soon. A friend was joking about the fact that the rest of the country is finally getting a taste of what it's like for us around hurricane season, lol. I'm pretty accustomed to seeing the empty shelves when people start prepping. We're right on the line where they always have "optional" evacuation during a hurricane, about 5 miles from mandatory hurricane evacuation areas. So these people know how to stock their pantry and lock down in their homes. lol

Good morning "Peeps" I need a stiff cup of anything today. Cluck number 2 died in my arms this morning. 2 more show signs of coughing and wheezing also. FYI. Keep practicing good bio security, somehow my original flock was exposed, and I am afraid!
Oh no, hope they will be ok. Chickens seem very susceptible to respiratory diseases.

buried Linda Lou right next to Jess, sorry i'm crying right now, but I did say a nice prayer: Earth won't be quite the same without you my beloved feathered friends, but God in his infinite mercy, will take you to a better place. And my hope is to see your loving eyes again someday, for now little ones, rest in Christ's care. Amen
So sorry for your loss . It is so hard watching them struggle to get better.

I hear that! We don't get much snow in SW WA, so when it is in the forecast, even Walmart cannot keep stocked in some of the basics, like TP, butter, milk, bread, etc. But, my little town IGA always has some of everything. I'm not sure how they do it, but they are pretty reliable.

The reason I keep so well stocked is because the big stores are so far away and this is just easier. Plus, I keep 25 year food for any long term event, but not as much as a prepper does. Just maybe a dozen large cans of basics. You never know.

Her son is in Atlanta and decided not to come home for her birthday yesterday. Stinking virus!!! :rant

I can't figure out if we are over reacting, or if we're being prudent. Will we ever know? We're doing what we need to do to stop it now, but how will we know we needed to? I never even paid much attention to Ebola, H1N1, etc, other than to pray for those affected. I never thought for a minute I was at risk. I suppose being 67 with a DH with congestive heart failure changes all that. Or is it all the hype?

It's great that you can comfortably be ready for anything though! Chickens make a huge difference too. Realistically we won't be starving even if this lasts for an extended period of time because the chickens provide us with eggs daily!

I'm in the same shoes, my husband had open heart surgery so he's more at risk, I have my own health concerns. I'm fortunate to have my parents right down the street but they're older and not in the best health either. We're all just supporting each other, proceeding with caution, and hoping for the best!

I do have a friend of the family in special forces that was in the front lines helping to control the chaos and he was the first one to tell us to get prepared and to get the N95 masks. He said it was getting out of hand. So that was enough for me to take it seriously.

Nothing to be afraid of, just something to take seriously. I guess that's how I feel about it.

I think that's the right response. I ordered a bunch of masks last summer because of a virus I caught then, not this one. Actually it was a reaction to a blood transfusion. So I was wearing them to keep my germs to myself. I ordered 100, just because I could. Now I'm glad I did.
