Cup o' Joe and Tea Too

Lucy was the only one left from my first flock of 6 chickens 4 years ago. She is my avatar. When I went out to give out a few treats this morning, I wasn't greeted by my ever ready little Lucy. :hit She passed away in the night. :hit RIP sweet Lucy.

She wasn't sick, and wasn't even the one showing suspicious signs of coccidiosis when I treated them all. She was her peppy normal self yesterday and went to bed at her regular time. She just didn't wake up this morning. :hit She will be so missed!!!

I could trust her to integrate chicks for me. I could put her with a sick hen for company. She had her own coop, which she was currently sharing with Surly, the broody mama to be, and Queen Bee while she is trying to get back to health. But, it was always her coop. :love

IM this is Surly right now. I think she is in lock down. My guess is 21st. I’ll share pics for sure! Want to see yours too! Watching broody mamas is the best! :love

Thanks. They don't live so long as us, but it is always sad. I have gotten all my chicks at Wilco, so I suppose they would be considered production birds, so they aren't expected to live long lives. She wasn't sick, so that makes me happy. Healthy and happy until the end. :)

BTW, I love your new avatar!

Thanks Val, it's an oldie but goodie!

It helps to know when we do lose our animals that they didn't suffer. But you're right, it's always sad.

Val I'm so sorry to hear that. We do get attached. She made it across the rainbow.
