Cup o' Joe and Tea Too

Very nice pictures Val! Who is the whitish colored girl in front of your boy? She's pretty!
There are two Lavender Orpingtons in front of Pippi. That is Alice and Abby. Here's a photo of the LO cockerel I have.

He is pretty clumsy and overbearing with the girls, so he doesn't get to hang out with them often. Plus, Pippi is clearly the dominant, and I'm always afraid Mad Hatter (the LO) will get hurt.

Beautiful! :love

Thanks. I think so too. But he is very ornery. Hope he will mellow out with age. I have spent more time with him than any other chicken ever. He's a handful, but he has a forever home. :D

How old is he?

Sometimes the orneriest animals turn out to be the best! I used to have a red sex link that liked to sneak up behind me and peck. Once she figured out I was going to pick her up every time she did it, she quit and became my biggest lap sitter. Loved that little girl.

He is about 10 mos old now. So is Pippi. Raised together it seems so odd that their personalities are so different.

I have picked Mad Hatter up a lot, and he usually keeps his distance from me because of it. But, if I'm not paying attention and I happen to be right next to him with my back turned, he will definitely take the opportunity. LOL I'm more concerned about how rough he is on the girls. He gets frustrated if a hen wont squat for him and runs, so he'll grab her by the wing and try to drag her down. And when he does that, Pippi is ready to grab him by anything he can get a hold of and then it's no more fun and games.

My little mama hen was like yours. She would growl at me and peck at me all the time, and I picked her up and spent a lot of time with her. It is why she is called Surly Girl. I don't know if she'll ever be sweet, or want to be on my lap, but I just love her. As I do Mad Hatter. They all deserve a life, so I'll give them the best one I can.

Thanks! Getting Lavender Orpingtons was kind of a fluke, it's what they had when I needed brooder mates for Pippi. I'm so happy I have them.
It is activley Raining here I want to whine... Smudge is going through the terrible teens now.
He is blue mararns sometimes I wonder how broody the cochin is ?or is it reason to leave her alone ?
Sounds just like Mad, terrible teens. I really hope he grows out of this. I think a few more hens and I'll have enough for both roosters one day. But, he has to learn to be a gentleman like Pippi, that's for sure.

Raining in Portland too.
