Cup o' Joe and Tea Too

Oh sorry already back in all clean ... Been keeping a close eye on my old olive egger
she is pretty stove up hunched over bad, lays an egg about 3 times a week ..
she has stopped jumping just too many cockerel over time they all loved her think to her detriment. She walks front into a nest box at night ... Red is told No when he advances

Sad here.:hit Have had some bad luck with coons this week. Lost around 10 chicks and one hen that was sitting on eggs. I thought my coop was very secure ( had no issues last year) but the darn coons pulled my 6/7 week olds right threw the hardware cloth. Got my broody hen and most of her eggs last night right out of the garage. Been setting traps but all we caught was a cat. Had to move all the birds to cages high off the ground. Spent a great deal of money yesterday on building materials to build yet another coop that will hopefully be a lot more predator proof. And going to try and reinforce the one I have. Any ideas?? I just don't want to lose anymore of my babies.

Yep. He's doing a great job, although he is learning that I do a lot around here. He's feeling pretty busy right now. Bless his heart.

He's excited about the weather change and plans to paint the new coop for me. :woot
You are in my thoughts! What color are you going with?

Through hardware cloth? Never heard of that. Are you sure you don't have chicken wire?

Nope. I don't like chicken wire. I don't think it works. That's why we use hardware cloth. 1/4 inch holes. All I can think of is the little one was laying up against the side and it tore it apart before pulling it threw. Have no idea how that could happen, but there was a little blood and feathers on the wire where it must have pulled it through. This chick was about a 6 week old silky so not very big, and the cage was up off the ground. It's sort of like a rabbit hutch I use for grow outs. Poor thing had never even had the chance to be on the ground yet.

Morning all @chickiebaby1 could you post photos ? Curious maybe it was the cat
not coons but either way awful..... Horibble... I am so sorry .. I lost young before I realized our own three outside cats will kill young I have aprons on the coops of hardware cloth now
