Cup o' Joe and Tea Too

Bella was imported from Serbia by the woman I got her from. You can see she bred her extensively. She had to have a C-section with each pregnancy. Didn't stop the owner. She was going to breed her again after the last one but a ligament let loose in the uterus and she suddenly didn't want Bella any longer. Hmmm. Wonder why.
She came to me very insecure and has made wonderful progress with her confidence over the month I've had her.
I can hardly bear to think about the dogs that are over bred and generally kept in poor conditions during that time. Bella has a story to tell. But, now, her life begins! What a great thing you did for her!

Holy moly, I'm so glad you saved her!!!

She's done just as much for me. I've had a very hard string of years and difficulties and she has brought some joy back into my life.

My Ruby is also a rescue, and she has gotten very comfortable with us, but can still be insecure. I know she would protect us from any animal, but not necessarily from a person. It seems to me that she is looking to me to protect her from people.

I don't know her history, just that when they didn't want her anymore, they dropped her off on the side of a country road. She stayed there, pacing about a 1/2 mile stretch of the road waiting for them to come back. She wouldn't come to anyone she didn't know, so the shelter finally set a trap to get her. When I got her she had tape worms and was skin and bones. She is still a lean dog, it's how she is built, but looks so healthy now. And the best thing? She is one happy dog. Her name should have been Joy!

For some reason it's hard to get a good picture of her. Whenever I try she sort of hangs her head and acts like she thinks I'm going to hurt her or something. We have never hurt her. She will always be a bit of a mystery.

It was supposed to be highs in the 60s all week here but it's in the 40s today and still wet from all the rain yesterday. I know it could be colder but the humidity is making it feel so much colder than it is! Brrr View attachment 2016190

What projects are you working on today?
I need to rip some boards for the roof of the coop I am building.

My second Dobie, Abby, didn't like me taking her picture because she was afraid of the camera flash. She was thunder shy. Didn't matter if I turned off the flash. She saw the camera and thought it was going to strike a lighting bolt at her every time.

Ruby is not afraid of thunder and lightning, and I just take photos with my phone. It's really weird. What can I say? The girl is camera shy. :gig

Nice! I'm trying to think of a way to convince my husband to rebuild my chicken coop for the 3rd time. lol
I know how you feel. My DH will be building a new one for me in March, for the 4th time. Finally this time it should be the coop to end all coops around here.
