Curing scaly leg mites

A couple of my hens have scaly leg mites.
What should I use to help it?

@Eggcessive @Wyorp Rock @MysteryChicken

Also, is it a disease that can spread to other chickens?

Thanks in advance ❤️
You can do a Soap water scrub, & slather in petroleum Jelly, or vaseline to smother the mites.

Scaly leg mites are microscopic, and not seen usually. They can travel along the roost to spread to other birds. Older birds may be more affected, but they can spread to younger ones. There are a few methods of treating them. Dipping the legs in a pot of oil, or rubbing the legs with vaseline, mineral or castor oil twice a week is a common treatment. Ivermectin pour-on 5 mg per ml may be used in some chickens 0.1 ml for every 2 pounds of weight placed on the back of the neck over the spine. Here is a good article to read:

Also, @Eggcessive, @MysteryChicken, & @6BeachChicks, how long will it take until their legs get back to normal?

I rubbed their legs with Vaseline earlier today, after a 5 minute soap/water soak.

It really depends on how severe the case is. Can you post a picture when you get a chance?
