Hi everyone!
I've posted on here before about my pullet, but since she's older, i thought i'd post again. She's 5 months old now, and laying.
So here's the story:
I got 2 eggs from a friend that has several banties running around. I knew they'd be mixed, but was pretty sure i would be able to figure them out because there weren't all that many possible parents. Here they are....
Possible fathers:
Golden Laced Cochin
Mottled Cochin
Possible mothers:
Mottled Cochin
Golden Laced Cochin
Mille Fleur D'uccle
White Silkie
White/Buff Silkie

I had 2 chicks hatch out. One was clearly a silkie mix. The other was black with some white at hatch. I thought it was a rooster, but it ended up being a pullet. So here's the question:
This pullet is completely black. She looks like a pure black cochin. Clearly no silkie. I expected her to get some mottling or something, but she hasn't.
Single comb, Feathered feet, yellow legs, smooth feathered, non-crested.
I would love to hear your opinions. Thanks!

Father is the Mottled Cochin, the mother is the Golden Laced Cochin

Mottled bred to anything without mottling creates solid black offspring by default because mottling is a recessive gene on top of black.
Thank you! I wondered if there was something with a black gene. I don't know very much about stuff like that.
