Curious chicken cracked shell of egg due to hatch in two days

Is the other egg still alive?
That's great about the others.
When I checked last night, there was no internal pip, but there was a chick in there. I heard no signs of movement. I don't think it's alive anymore. I wasn't sure what to do so I put it back. I didn't have time to check this morning, but the egg was still there.

Probably a late quitter then. You could carefully open it up when you get home tonight, and see if it's alive or not.
That's a really good hatch rate though.

I wanted to try last night, but I figured it's sort of a doomed if you do doomed if you don't. If it was still alive and wasn't ready, I'd kill it. If it needed help, I don't really have a way to know until it's too late. I was already thinking that tonight I'd start chipping away at the air cell. I am still bummed about it though. I figured it'd die without O2 before it died from not eating :(

You can safely open the air cell on eggs that aren't ready as long as you stay in the air cell. It's better for assisted eggs if they can go into an incubator afterwards, but not everyone has one. I just open mine like this. This first one is a broody's egg.

How do you go about chipping it? I was just going to start poking it with the tip of a knife.

Edit: did those chicks make it?

Yep, they made it. I use a small pin, and scratch a x on the top of the day end. Once you have a little hole, you can use a pair of clean tweezers to make the hole bigger, so you can see what's going on. All chicks I've ever assisted have made it. That's how I decided this method works, lol. Here's another pic with 2 that were in the process of being assisted, and one that hatched all on her own.

How long had they been stuck in there before you assisted? If it's been stuck for two days do you think there's a chance at all?

24 hours after external pip, or 36 hours after internal pip with no external pip.
If there wasn't any movement, and it hasn't internally pipped yet, it's probably a goner. But you know for next time now.
